Pneumatic Flange Spreaders

Pneumatic Flange Spreaders

Pneumatic flange spreaders offer the greatest advantages for spreading flanges.  The advantage are not strictly the amount of power that can be applied to force the flanges apart, althought that is a vital benefit.  One of the more important benefits is portability.  FLANGE BOSS are the only flange spreaders which can be driven by pneumatic force.  The portability advantage is significant.  When comparing the pneumatic spreader to the other types of power assisted spreaders, weight is big factor, especially against their hydraulic counterparts.  Pneumatic flange spreaders are lighter, because there is no power unit.  The driver is an impact wrench.  The preferred impact tool is the 1500 ft/lb version.  This provides 25000 lbs of spreading force to the flanges.  Another great advantage to pneumatic flange spreaders is the impact wrench is already in use to loosen the flange bolts.  Therefore, there is no need to purchase an additional impact tool to provide power to the spreader.  This means the cost of pneumatic flange spreaders are less than hydraulic ones.
To use pneumatic flange spreaders a socket is connected to the impact tool.  This socket is provided by the manufacturer of the FLANGE BOSS.  This impact socket is of sufficient strength for this task.  Standard sockets should not be used for this type of high impact work on flanges.  By using an impact  tool, the amount of equipment needed at the job site will be less.
There will be less equipment and hoses at the job site, which can be a tripping hazard when spreading flanges.  Furthermore, it requires less time to set-up pnuematic flange spreaders for operation because the impact wrench is already in intregal part of flange work and being used on flange bolts.  This means a simple change of sockets is all that is necessary to put these pneumatic flange spreaders to work.  Then the tool can spread the flanges.
When the job of spreading the flanges has been completed the spreader is removed.  At this time the impact socket is changed to fit the nut sizes of the flange bolts.
Clearly pneumatic flange spreaders have many advantages to the other types of flange spreaders.
